sucking wind part II....

July 21, 2011 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
Ran the road to the school, cut off right up the hill. Definitely harder than yesterday, body not quite awake yet, though foot felt great. A few school children ran with for about a mile. Ran with Ash (2:13 800), Reba, Margot, and Madison (latter 3 decided they werent going to go more than 3 miles a day after the 2nd day, which made it a bit difficult to find people to train with...)

A few things to know about Iten
1) it's constantly hilly. theres no flat ground anywhere, except for the track, and even there one straightaway is slightly uphill. so hills kind of become a daily occurence.

2)the surface is red dirt and rocks. it rains every night, so the morning runs are always muddy which can be quite fun sometimes.

3) In Iten, more than 1/2 the town goes for runs at 6am and 10am. So on morning runs we always get passed by lots of Kenyans. But its awesome to see them out. and sometimes on our tempos theyre going easy, so no ones ever alone running because theres always someone to latch onto. more about Iten later...
