2 mile warm up with Alex and Brendan. beautiful night for racing. I did have to go to the bathroom about 10 minutes before the gun went off and there was a line so that was a bit nerve-racking...however, i made it to the line to get through drills, and get some good striders in.

I felt pretty laid back although I was excited because i just wanted to go in with no rigid expectations and see what I could do. I just decided I would try to win.

At the beginning, some feisty high schoolers tried to take off with the leader, so after the firs turn I sped up quickly past them and some other decent competitors in order to stay within range of the leader. We cam through the first mile in about 5:08; which is out in a clearing area, and I noticed that I was gaining on the leader (a Marietta assistant coach) on the small uphills) so when we came up the larger hill out of the woods and towards the halfway point, I went ahead of him and pushed to the top of the hill. From then it went down a while before going up the last stretch and he stayed about 10-15 seconds behind. I got the W and ran a 16:48. The course is short but always has been and sophomore year I ran a 17:27...and then a 17:10 at inter squad. So..I'm thinking I should go below 16:30 at inter squad. This is very good since no workouts have been done this summer and base training is all im going off of. So, I'm happy and think im in a good spot. We measured the course at 3.0 with a GPS watch so it is somewhere around there. It has a decent amount of elevation change too. Im questioning the distance though, because I think my pace was faster than 5:30s.

I was happy with how I raced to catch up to the leader, and then take his spot; it was fun looking back.

3.5 ish mile cool-down and not enough stretching. more at home as well as rolling. hips, abs, push-ups.
