makimee day #4: field work-out #2

August 25, 2011 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: cloudy

Comments:
calves sore from the moment i woke up.
the work out was mostly 1000 intervals (almost a mile - marisa's specialty), and also at least one 500 (which is more my cup of tea as a mid distance runner)
started off with Darren and the guys but Marisa and i broke off into our own group after the first interval and Zach joined us (and he was so helpful/encouraging). i think it could have been any coach running with us, but for some reason zach was particularly inspiring during this work out. i think it was because i've seen him come out for the alumni run every year in his u.s.a flag shorts talking to alumni like the stern brothers, and he was one of those few alumni that'd i'd actually never met - even said hi to. so i guess i felt a connection to that previous generation of fast runners? or perhaps it was just nice to be inspired by someone who didn't actually know me and all my stress issues. (i think i'm beginning to really conquer my nerves...its a work in progress)
it was definitely a mentally challenging workout. i kept telling myself that anthony put me in this group for a reason, so i was able to sustain my confidence throughout the workout (thanks for the words of advice beforehand anthony!).
ended each interval fairly strong. the 2nd half was definitely the hardest part, particularly the middle of the interval - not just because we were so far removed from the rest of the team and their encouragement, but simply because its the middle where your head starts to wander and doubt yourself, where you actually start thinking. ended the 500 very strong, actually just ran the whole thing really fast - i guess that's why i'm a 800 runner. after having already completely 3 (i think) 1000s and that 500, i managed to end the very last 1000 (zach/anthony added in as a surprise) with a very strong finish - i guess it was like the last 80 meters that was a progressively faster and faster strider (altho i'd been progressively picking it up and believing in myself thru that entire last lap). i think i also just wanted to get it over with.
then i made sure to keep up with marisa and actually stretch afterward. didn't wanna be really sore for the water park.
so proud of myself :)
