Exercise Type: Bike
Weather: low 30s, flurries, high winds
Comments:
Woke up at 0430 and was in my car headed north by 0520. The plan was to bike ~40 miles along the Scenic Byway, then hang out in Portland for the day.
The weather was supposed to be precip-free but a bit chilly. Didn't really turn out that way in the gorge. Once on I84 there were flurries and high winds. Eek.
That was the story of the bike. I started at Ainsworth SP and road west, past all THE FALLS and up to the Vista House, and beyond on Larch Mtn Road. The ride out wasn't too bad; very little traffic, which was GREAT. I had a nice wind at my back, too boot.
Long climb up to the House and when I got up there, I was almost knocked on my ass multiple times by the winds, up to 40mph, I bet. EEK.
Once past the House, I ran into increasing snow/ice/flurry coverage on the road, but I persisted a few miles up Larch Mtn Rd. Very little to see up this road so once I got to 15mi, I turned around.
A bit treacherous on the way down but I made it. The ride back on the rolling flat sucked because of fatigue and wind. Stopped once at Bridal Veil for some pics and to thaw my feet, otherwise just a pico-stop at Multnomah before heading back to the car.
Picnicked at the car, then headed out.
Spent the afternooon in Portland hanging out with Julie Richards, who I hadn't seen in at least a decade! I went solo DT for some Voodoo Donuts (amazing, but expensive unless you buy a dozen), then we hung out on the East side. Very fun day.
