September 17, 2011 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
First 8k of the season. Felt like a big race, pretty pumped. Woke up fairly early, had an odd sleep in the hotel too (air was stuffy and dry). A good breakfast cleaned that up though. Got taped up too before stepping out into the Michigan morning air. Felt pretty loose and excited to race. Dont think I was thinking about much. We had a nice group, talked over the strategy and the packing from the bus ride. It was a good atmosphere.

Warmed up on the course. It felt close to perfect. The girls ran real strong on it. Feeling decent on the warm up, then we stretched, go siked up, and spiked up. I honestly dont remember much from the start of the race...

THe started messed up the gun a few times, which was funny. We were ready to go in our boxes though. Race went off, CKells and the topish pack went off in to the mobscene. It looked like Wyatt got up there too. Me, Corey, Drew, and Brandon and Aaron all hung toghether and started going. Strung out after a while. We still all stuck as a pack. Didnt get intimidated by the 5:15 first mile. I couldnt really tell if we were passing or getting passed, but we held together through the loops and past the 4k. I started to feel it there. I was really strong and good in the beginning half. The long runs help with that I believe. Crossed over the road, and COrey and Brandon took it up. Came through the 5k, and knew it was time to go. Freshman year I messed up the race so much earlier, so I felt pretty positive. Brandon started going, and I followed him. I was a few strides behind. It wasnt a choice. He needed the help later. I was hurting but made the right decision. Around the baseball fields, didnt really pass anyone but kept rolling near Brandon. Finally got him at the 6k, then we went down the hill. I pulled him a long and we started passing people a little more. At the 7k, knew it was time to go, and pushed it. I keep forgetting how long it is until the finish. I was infront of Brandon with 800 to go. Saw Peter on the side of the trail, and realized that we were 6 and 7 now, so we went. Brandon poured on the wheels, but I just couldnt kick it. He got going on the down hill and had a great finish. I felt pretty banged up, not as fearless as Sudeck. That is the one part of my race I am disappointed in. I am very happy I was there to help Brandon though. He tried to help me but it didnt workout. Didnt know the time when I finished, but I knew it was a big PR. Ran the last part of the race so much better than before. The mental tools helped a lot. PR in the 5k too I believe (16:40). The best part is we are going up from here.

Cooled down with a bunch of people. legs felt fine there. The felt shot after stretching though. It was a tough race. Excited to get a little rest until All Ohio. We are gonna bring pack that pack stronger than ever. I am addicted to the PR now.

Learned that I want to work on that foot speed. I can run and not get to tired, but I feel like I cant wheel it very well. The tape is a bit constrictive, but it isnt an excuse.

I guess we didnt get a better point total than 2 years ago, and we were kinda far apart, but we ran tough, and are showing improvement. Still go that positive attitude. This is one step closer to paying the price.
