Long run @ Community Parks

September 26, 2011 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: HOT

Comments:
Well apparently this is a long run for me now. I was going back through my running log and it blows my mind that at one point I ran 5-6 miles on easy days. Usually at 7:20 pace. Look at what I've been reduced to.

Anyway ran with Scott for the first 400 meters until he sped up and started talking to himself (I think Henry is rubbing off on him). Anyway I said screw it to trying to keep up with him and finished the twin ponds loop. From there it was just a random series of routes to add up to 40 minutes, which is what my goal was. I was tired but in a good way.

On another note, this week I'll be racing for the first time in 5 months. Yes, at FoC. My seed time is 19:00 (we'll see how that works out) and the last thing I want to do is race. When you've gone this long without racing, you begin to appreciate the art of running without the constant pressure of a race or competition on the horizon. I've always been really anxious about racing, then suddenly I'm running without any goal in mind. It was bliss in a way, and really got me to enjoy running on a totally different level compared to before. Now I'm back to the routine, and while it's exciting to get to race after so long, it's also saddening that this will be the last time possibly for years that I will get the opportunity to run without such pressure. Once I reach that point where I'm PRing again it'll be impossible to go back, that much I know. Right now I'm not too nervous but I know that Friday night I'll be in hell because of the nerves. Saturday morning I probably will barely be able to function.

But Saturday night, no matter how I do, I'll probably feel great. Yes, maybe I won't be able to run without pressure anymore, but racing is still one of the best feelings I know. And the feeling after having finished a race IS the best feeling I know.
