September 30, 2011 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: Cloudy, rain, 52°, 20-25 mph wind

Comments:
Reread Once a Runner on the bus on the way. Stayed on the bus for a while, then went and got taped by Cedarville's trainers. Headed back to the bus, got my stuff, and headed to the tent. Warmed up, got set up and got ready for the race. The course got worse as the day progressed so by the time the open races ran it was pretty rough. All time goals went out the window.
The Race: I ran with Mike Perisa and Alex Razavi through mile three, then took off since the pace was pretty slow and I was feeling fresh. Passed a few guys, then had some trouble catching an Otterbein kid who didn't want to be caught. Let him go but kept passing people up the back. Then I was running by myself for the next .75 miles or so. Picked it up with 1k to go then again at 800 to go when I saw Chris Kelly and Ethan cheering. Caught the wind pretty bad there and slowed down some, but coming into the final straight I started moving pretty good. I passed more than a few kids. One of them got me back with a little under a hundred to go(a different Otterbein kid- dammit!) but I tied up pretty hard right at the end. It was the hardest I've finished a race in a long time, and it's how I should be finishing every race (minus the getting passed back of course).

Overall not a bad day. given the course conditions and the fact that I've been sick for the last week, I'll take it. I wish I had pushed harder from 3.5 to 4.25 miles, so it wasn't perfect but it was a learning experience.
