October 1, 2011 (Afternoon)
Exercise Type: Run
Weather: partly cloudy, getting colder and colder... eventho the day started off with such perfect weather
Comments:
being sick and having not run in a week, and this being the first time every running this course eventho i'm i junior, it was pretty much what I expected. IT SUCKED. i felt absolutely lousy. it was the people around me who got me thru it. so i'd first like to thank the people i would have thanked if i'd had the guts...
matt for his encouraging email the night before. marisa for making be do shit when i just wanted to fall to the ground and close my eyes. nomi for being an awesome teammate - i couldn't have continued after that hill without her right ahead of me/next to me. (i passes 26 girls after the hill - yes, i counted) emma for cheering me on from behind - right at the end of the race when i just wanted to walk - without her i wouldn't of finished it up so strongly. the pack of girls who passed me at the very beginning of the race (marisa, julia, caroline, and someone else?) and prevented my from having way too slow of a first mile and inspired me when i watched them go up that hill right ahead of me - of course my hill was way slower than their's...the teammates who were there for me on the sideline. everyone who cheered for me, including sammy and whomever he brought with him (can't remember...). anthony for, well, just being anthony. anthony for just believing in me - i really needed that.
wow. that sounded a lot more formal than i meant it to.
anyway...
my race did feel terrible, but amazing at the same time. i did it! i dunno how i got thru it. i guess it was just the team. cauz there were so many times where i just wanted to walk, which is crazy cauz i've run tons of races before and never worried about walking. it did get better as the race went on, cauz in the first 50 meters i almost pulled out of the race - that voice in my head turned on only seconds after the gun shot. im not used to dealing with that voice so early on in a race. but by the time i saw anthony in the woods, that voice was turned off and i was in this no matter what.
i wish i'd put a tissue in my shorts cauz i really needed one...by the end of the day, i went thru almost the entire box. but i didn't really mind - so long as i wasn't in bed with a fever, i was happy. just happy to have my freedom.
the final race of the day was utterly inspiring. i'd missed most of the other races, so it was nice to finally actually get to see some of a race. it was boys varsity. the way they all kicked it in, one after another. sammet seemed disappointed, but knowing he'd just be back next week and his hard work would pay off soon...griffin just having an amazing day...texas kid's awesomely unexpected finish (dunno his name, so i call him texas, think his last name is basset?)...boardman still bringing it in strong even if he didn't have some ridiculously amazing race like griffin. billy cox in, varsity? what? when did this happen? and course he brought it in for us nice and strong. aww if u didnt see it u shudda!
it was a LONG bus ride back from delaware, but fun. team bonding experience :p on the way back i got absolutely no hw done...still can't believe i spent my entire day this way - 9am till 9pm.
all 'round great day in the end :)
