i dont run fast 800s ever

October 10, 2011 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
workout at the track today. brought spikes, and wore them but took the actual spikes out of them. goal pace for the 1000's was set to goal 8k pace, and the 800's were supposed to be faster than that pace pretty much. 200's were supposed to be mileish pace but everyone was doing them faster. i'm not really sure what my goal mile pace would be anymore anyway. especially after how good i felt after that 3rd 800.

coach said the 1000 guidelines were slower than we were supposed to run last week, but because she wanted us to work on the 800's real hard. i decided i would just try and hang with ethan and chris wade and david for as much of this workout as possible. so for the 1000's i just sat on them, and we actually had a really big group that just stayed together. i felt really relaxed, and the group effect made it seem like i wasn't doing much work even at this pace. the next two got faster and were slightly harder for me, but i was just following the group. i wasn't looking at my watch at all this workout pretty much. just heard barnes yelling splits for us. anyway, next was the 800's and on the first one i just followed david out and ended up finishing with the group. not sure what it was but at this point i thought to myself that coach wanted us to run the 800's hard and i felt like i wasnt running very hard. so on the second one i took it harder. i still felt good and i wasn't really thinking about how fast that was and that my pr is 2:14, and all this and that but that i still felt i could drop it another gear, and that with just a few 200's after that i could crank this one out. so i did. i kind of just lead the whole thing. i just felt really good. i still think i could have gone faster if i tried, but it wasn't a race, i wasnt going to kill myself. that being said, i pred in the 800 on the last one going 2:12. i dont know what it is about the track but things just go right for me there, and i'm going to translate that to the flat oberlin course this week. the 200's were faster than mile pace, but i didnt want to kill them either. very good day. only furthers my belief that i've been holding myself back mentally, and not physically. also, if i ever run an 800 again in my life i wonder what i could run without the intervals before it...
