November 5, 2011 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: cold, windy-ish

Comments:
I wanted to run in the low to mid 23s starting the season, but that did not happen the way things worked out. It was better than last year's time by 8 seconds, but I worked 10 times harder this year and am much stronger. Being injured and just overall physically and mentally burnt out is frustrating. I tried hard in the race, but was mentally not as competitive as I should have been. It was demoralizing not being with the competition that finished 40 seconds to a minute in front of me that I beat in September and should have been with or in front of at the end of the season. I tried to go with them, but I could not go out fast because I don't feel fast anymore. My legs and body were not responding. I have endurance, but I was unable to stay with the top 20 or even top 40 girls in the first mile due to lack of speed, so it was hard to stay competitive and be mentally tough knowing that I'm at the top of my game where I wanted to be and worked hard for. I finish cross country optimistic about my future as a runner and I'm excited to heal up and start training again. I do not feel like my body responds well to the amount of high-mileage/high-intensity I put it through, but different things work for different people and it was a learning experience. I gave it 100% this entire year, but things don't always work out the way you want them to and there will be many more races in my life.
