Forest Park - Portland

February 15, 2009 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
Woke up "pretty early" (0530) and was on the road by 0630 with hopes of biking Olympic NP today. I felt like SHIT though and the weather was not great: frosty cold and snow on the ground when I rolled into Olympia. I stopped for brekky there at a shitty Quality Inn and ate WAYYY too much, thinking I'd be fine for a ride and I'd need the "energy" for a 2+hr ride.

Ultimately, because of weather, energy, and driving distance, I decided against it and just tooled south.

In Portland, I decided I'd try a run in Forest Park. It took a while to find an access point, but I found one well north of town, halfway up the huge hill, and ran from there.

First of all, it was muddy as FUCK. It was pretty much like Hixon Forest except wayyy slicker mud and, interestingly, not as hilly.

I felt TERRIBLE on this run for 3 reasons:

(A) Energy. I felt like I was getting sick.
(B) Gut-rot. My horrible breakfast did a number on my gut.
(C) KNEE PAIN.

About 20 minutes in, my knee began acting up. I don't know whether it was the unstable surface or just medial quad tightness, but it bothered me early and often. I turned around at 30 minutes, feeling shitty, and ran a bit faster home. The knee did NOT feel good.

Thankfully once done and on the way home, I did not experience the "textbook" stiffness/pain at rest. Thank God.

No Stepping Stone this day, either. I felt just too shitty -- I couldn't imagine eating ANY pancakes after that breakfast + run. :(
