Exercise Type: Run
Comments:
Super-tired work today, then pretty damn tired heading up to Goodman. However, I was excited for the weekend, so it balanced OK.
The plan was for 4hr run/30 miles as my "last big long run" pre-Bandera. I'd been ragged all week, so only one Hardesty summit, so I ran an out and back on S. Willamette trail before resuming up Hardesty.
S Willamette was a pretty solid trail - only my 2nd time on there. Some overgrowth but not bad. Wore the Cascadias - solid shoe, but heavy. Tripped once on the SW trail. Ran out 29min, then back in 27.
The climb up Hardesty after an hour warm-up was tough: actually walked a bit and my overall time up was 1:08 compared to the usual 1:02-3. From there I made my way up/across to the upper base of June. On the out and back section, I ditched my hydration pack. VERDICT: the pack sucks; I can't rotate and move through my trunk. I felt so much better without it.
The descent was great; worked on quick turnover. On the road, I went from "great" to rough quick, so I pumped a gel, s-cap and water and got OK.
Onto the Goodman Ck trail I made a decision to take no more aid and "embrace the bonk". It came pretty hard in the last 20mi on the rolling ridges; but I survived ("thrived!") well.
Very tough, tiring run, but good training. Post-run beer at Brewers Union (amazing low ABV malt beer), then up to Sunriver!
