Exercise Type: Run
Weather: N/A
Comments:
Decent workout. Once again we were tasked with 6-8x200, faster than race pace. Our times were on the slow side compared to what I would have liked, but it's forgivable since we were all sore from yesterday's sprinting. None of us have much experience with speed workouts like that, so we're slow to recover.
Anyway, we had an idea. We're going to ask Mr. Paul if, instead of running consecutive hard workouts every week just to fit in two speed sessions, he can give us a speed workout to do over the weekend. We could all meet up Sunday morning, run the workout, and on Monday we'd get a nice recovery before the Bates workout on Tuesday. It would also ensure everyone runs over the weekend (which I've been terrible at, opting to lift instead of going through the terrible monotony of a long run alone).
Also: I'm running the 4x8 and 2mile on Friday. I think we've all agreed to run the relay hard, since Spencer and I are obviously eager to test our 800 speed some more and Thomas has yet to run the 8 this season. I'm not sure how Spencer and I will do since our 2:06s were largely influenced by Nestor leading us, but, for argument's sake, if we can average 2:06.5 together, and Thomas runs 2:06 (I have no idea what he'll actually be running. He's certainly capable of much faster judging by his workouts but it's also his first 800 of the season), that puts us at 6:19, which means if Henry can run in the realm of 2:13 we're 8:32, which would be a school record and state leading. I consider those conservative estimates overall, though, especially Henry's time. During today's workout, he impressed me, leading the rest of us and probably running 30s and 31s. If he can lead three 2:06 800 runners in a speed workout, he should have no trouble breaking 2:10. The issue is the same as last year, though: he thinks he is a terrible 800 runner so he doesn't run it aggressively enough. Luckily he'll be running first so hopefully someone from another team will push him to a strong race. If we can get that, sub-8:30 is guaranteed.
As for the 2mile, I have no idea what to expect. My endurance continues to be a weakness after the stress fracture, but I'll have Thomas there to push me. My expectations are in the realm of a 10:50, but I would love to beat 10:40 and qualify.
