An hour after arriving back in Cleveland it was time for my long progression run. Now, I woke up at 3:45am this morning, 6:15am yesterday morning, and 3:55am the day before that and just got done traveling all day. I also have never had a decent progression long run before since I always seem to end up having injury issues with tempo runs at the end of the a long run.

Ethan told me he was running this today and I am very grateful he did because I would have never done this well with it on my own. We started off toward Euclid Creek for the easy part, the wind blowing powerfully at our back, ran down Euclid Creek and back a little on Euclid for our medium part, which was pretty easy since it was very, very downhill, but this left us with about six miles of running straight back Euclid into the teeth of the wind, coupled with a little detour I wanted to make into an isolated East Cleveland neighborhood on the hillside, and finishing up Cedar Hill.

We ended up starting the tempo right in the middle of running up the huge Reyburn Hill. The first part of the neighborhood looked truly awful. We saw a car with slashed tires parked on the street and about a third of the houses were boarded up. I was starting to wonder if maybe we ought not to try this neighborhood and just go back. But we kept going up the hill, which would make a great workout hill if it wasn't so far from campus and in a neighborhood where we would be at risk of getting shot, and continued on the tempo. The back section of the neighborhood was a little better and only had a couple boarded up houses. It looked like an area that could be really nice with a little love. Many of the houses in that section were pretty nice and had great views of the hillside.

After that brief detour we ran back down to Euclid (Yay! Downhill!) and did the rest of the tempo. My face was frozen to where I was starting to have blurred vision and I had Cedar Hill in the back of my mind to dread running up at the very end. But, I never gave up or anything like that and finished with Ethan on Euclid Heights. We stopped and walked a bit and then jogged to the XCFH. I was incredibly sore and I'll certainly be feeling this one tonight and tomorrow.
