The weather today was absolutely gorgeous such that I couldn't help but make it a decent workout no matter what state I was in otherwise. This was more similar to the 4x2k workout than anything else we've done this year and like that workout, I started each interval fast, 77 on the first one and 76 on the third. On each I settled back down to about 5:30 pace for the second mile. My goal was 11:00 so that's fine. The wind was somewhat in my face on the way out, but I seemed to really notice the hill as I finished the last 400 of the second and third intervals. My heart rate felt really high on the first interval, but I calmed down after that and ran a little smoother. My legs started to feel heavy, more on the second interval than the third actually, but it never became too much of an issue.
The 400s were rougher than I had hoped. My legs were really tight today, probably from not running a workout in the last 5 days and not stretching very well when I was traveling. But, I did loosen up as I ran them. I went considerably faster than race pace because I figured it would help to loosen me some.
I decided to make a couple improvizations on the lifting today since medballs by myself is a little strange, so I went down to the weight room and did my old summer lifts minus the leg curls because I decided my hamstrings had enough of a challenge from the workout itself.
All in all, this went extraordinarily well for a workout alone. The times I ran today compare pretty well against most of my workouts from sophomore year.
