Long PRE

March 13, 2009 (Afternoon)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
Pretty good day at work, though one of my patients flared up this week so that was an hour of damage control today.

After lunch I went for my run. Really nice out: mid-50s and pure sun. I did the whole PRE loop from work.

Felt a little clunky at first and the knee a bit sore; it was actually a bit sore last night -- during the bike, then afterwards. Hmmm...

After a pee stop on the singletrack trail, I began to feel what seemed to be legit knee pain. So I spent maybe 5-10 minutes working on my hips. Something wasn't right.

After I started running again, I focused on hip stability, and Jeff's tips of "flow" -- of allowing myself to stride out. Doing that made a BIG DIFFERENCE. Turns out I was going back to "shitty retardo stride": of hammering on my forefoot in that choppy stride, rather than stride OUT while engaging my prox hip.

Things went and felt WAY better the rest of the run, and I felt like a real runner that 2nd half.

By the time I got back to Oakway I was getting pretty tired, but I did an extra loop around the mall to get 7, and to check out my form in the mirror. It looked much better. I did some more hip work after the run (in the window reflection). I'm gonna have to keep doing this (and keep stretching my hip ext) because it's nowhere close to automatic yet. :|
