April 8, 2012 (Morning)
Exercise Type: Run
Comments:
Supposed to do first 10 miles relaxed, last 6 miles at marathon pace.
Started off feeling ok, was going 6:20's but felt really relaxed. About 3 miles in hit a hill and my legs just felt dead and useless--wasn't struggling at all, and still didn't feel like I could go much slower, but also didn't feel like I could pick it up if necessary. And that's how the rest of the first 10 went. At mile 9 I was debating picking it up for the last 6 or just running through it because I felt so lousy. Wound up deciding to go for it, 5:43/pace. About .75 miles in the first quick mile I already felt my legs being sluggish again. Wasn't pushing the pace, turnover was easy and collected, breathing was relaxed; legs were just dead. Mile 11 was 5:36. Next mile was into a big headwind and I was feeling it. 5:53 and I just wanted to quit. Ran the third mile (13) at that pace then bagged the run. Came back a little the last 1.5 miles but wasn't pushing anything at that point.
First 10 miles-- 62:57
Next 6 miles-- 35:28
Finished up with a quick two minute recovery jog.
Ran at noon at the peak of the sun and it was gusts of 30mph. Think a combination of 70+ deg, peak sun, and wind all contributed to my terrible feeling but whatever. Covered in salt, and my mouth and nostrils were completely white after the run, pretty disgusting. Also wasn't sweating at all which isn't a good sign.
It's over, just not a confidence booster and not what I needed one week out.
