Exercise Type: Run
Weather: 82 Partly Cloudy/ Windy
Comments:
WU: Veale to MLK via Little Italy
4 mile sustained effort: last 800 in 2:40
CD: back to Veale from MLK mile mark
Coach's instructions were to run 4-5 miles of sustained effort and not worry too much about the pace. She even suggested to do it on North Park. She also told me that from today onward, I should expect to finish every workout hard on the last interval, the end of a tempo, etc. to get into the right mindset for Conference.
My stomach was cramping all morning and I was dreading what would happen in the workout. Most of the cramping seemed to go away after the first half mile of the tempo but my legs still felt heavy and tight. I knew my meltdown yesterday was probably a decent bit of the cause because I could feel my legs tightening as my pace fell apart at the end of the long run.
I went out around 5:50 pace, but struggled more than I had expected to in the heat and with the wind. I was starting to drift back to 6:00 pace on the way back and decided to cut it at four miles to make sure I finished hard. I sped up and ran a 2:40 for the last half mile to the MLK mile mark. It felt pretty bad to be honest. Back in Veale, I made sure to roll and stretch very well so that today is the beginning me turning around my running struggles of the last week instead of another brick in the wall.
