Ice Bath @NRV & Greenie Ride back to Veale
I was a little pumped up for this today because it was my last real workout as a Case runner (Friday and next week are likely heavy taporing workouts). I started with Corey Williams even though he was running 5k pace and fewer intervals and I found myself running 75 and 74 for the first couple 400s. The kickers almost seemed harder than the quarters. I managed to relax somewhat in the middle and consistantly hit 76s with the occasional quarter as fast as 74 or as slow as 78. I was supposed to be running 78s so I never missed any of them. I felt really good and felt as though I could have done 40 of these. I asked Coach before the last quarter if she wanted me to maintain pace or run faster and she told me it is often good to finish well but it's up to me. I decided to try kicking and really turned it on. I ran the quarter in 63 and turned to do the kicker, which was pretty rough.
After a couple miles of cooldown, I took an ice bath in NRV with Chris Kelly, Ben, David, and Mercer and then rode the Greenie back to Veale with them.
This was the first time in about two weeks I had a good workout. I am pleased with how easy it felt to run 5k pace (I was shooting for 10k pace but most of them ended up being faster). I am getting excited to run again for the first time in weeks. I did not find myself dreading this or worrying about how I will feel. This is it for me very soon. Modified quote to sum it all up: These kids have their whole running career ahead of them, but for me, I finish things.
