Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
it was real windy out today. kind of cold, but only because of the wind. the temp wasn't that bad otherwise. did the 10k workout, which i shall delve into a little later.. the workout was 2 times 2400 but the 2400 was split into 800/1600 at 5k/10k paces. coach said that with the wind to try and ignore the times but i tried to do my best while not overdoing it as well. went 2:35/5:36 on the first one, but i wasnt really looking at my watch, this was just the effort that happened. was supposed to be 2:30/5:12 so, not so hot. but with wind i guess i'll take it. second one was a little better. 2:35/5:28. i felt pretty smooth, just focusing on trying to keep decent form even with the wind.

now to the big news of the day! i get to make my debut appearance at a UAA conference meet this weekend. and in a "surprise" twist i'm also making my debut in the 10k. its actually not that much of a surprise to me, but everyone else seemed to be a little surprised by it. i think both coach and i knew this was going to be a likely outcome a long time ago. barring a 15:20 performance from myself before conference, even i knew it would be hard to convince rubin i had a chance to score in the 5k. fortunately the 10k is a weaker event, and tim's near guarantee he was going to be going benefited me. the fact that i've raced and done workouts with or better than him was my way into this meet. and if i couldn't go in the 5k, coach had been occasionally having me do some 10k workouts throughout the season. i think i'm ready. i think this season has played out to where i'm in peak shape right now. running a 10k versus a 5k doesn't change how good of shape i'm in, and i'm going to use that as a sort of confidence thing for this. having not run this race before is only a small obstacle, but i think its something i'm going to be able to overcome with smart and competitive racing. this race could very well play out to my advantage, with some of the top guys not wanting to run too hard due to doubling in the 5k. i also asked coach if she could enter me in the 5k as well. i keep telling people i'm not anticipating running the 5k the next day, but i don't think its that far from something possible to do. its part of what coach says when we shouldn't be scared of the rest of the uaa. i've never been scared of anyone and it won't change at this meet. if other people in the uaa can do it, you damn well bet i'm going to do my best to do it too. i know 10k's take a lot out of you and all that stuff, but being the type of person i am i won't sit around all day if i can race. if i feel good, i'm going to run, and i'm going to execute the same plan i would if i was running that fresh. i'm probably done racing after this weekend so i'm not saving up for anything else. but thats a minor detail i'll tackle on sunday if it rolls around. for now i'm going to get a little plan and put some thought into this 10k.
