Maiden + Fuji

July 28, 2012 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
Leisurely morning, then run from Waldo Lk Rd at the Gold Lake/Fuji crossing. Ran up to Maiden, around to the finish, then back via the Nordic center to the cars, then up Fuji.

Felt OK early, though it was work to get up Maiden. We went very easy down; especially after Connor tweaked his ankle on the descent from Maiden Lk AS to the PCT. We ran very easy to the finish/ski area, where we ran into some Hackers, who gave Connor a ride to the truck.

Jake and I ran back to the truck via Nordic + Gold Lk Rd. We both felt worn and were both low on sugar (I'd only taken 200kcal, he only 100). So when we got to the truck, we took an extended break to eat a lot (sandwich, pretzals, even half a beer!), then reluctantly went up Fuji.

I was very tired and dreading it, but it turned out to be pretty good! Focused on the following today:

- R (and L) big toe "pull"
- "Engagement" - neck and chest forward
- hip extension, "opening"

The engagement was huge, as I was able to keep good momentum. I started to drop Jake 'til I told him about engagement, and then he was right with me. Hiked a fair amount to the top, but still did the 6+mi/2800' in ~80min. Ran straight back, some good convos on the way back.

A solid 50K run today. Body felt good, but feet got a bit sore AND I felt a bit of a soreness in my R abs - don't think it was trunk shift, but still a habit of flexing there. Always a work in progress....
