Time Trial

August 20, 2012 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
We had an early breakfast at Luetner. It was packed again, and I didnt get as much food as I wanted. After breakfast, it wasnt worth going back to the house, so we chilled in Corey's suite for the morning, getting ready for the time trial. Everyone made it out to the track on time and we got started in a timely manner. I lead a group of kids out to do just a mile warm up, and then I was gonna add on to make it 1.5, my usual tempo warm up. It was sunny on campus, but there was thunder in the distance, which kept the temp nice. Felt kinda tight in the calf on the warm up, but loose and limber overall. Very exciting. I also had to pee a lot. Anyways after drills and putting shoes on, I felt as ready as I could be. Before we started, while I was doing striders, I tapped and told myself to run a smart and positive race, to make the right decisions. That is my goal for every workout and race.

I was on the second line since I didnt think I would be sub 10 today. I have never gone sub ten, and doing it off of a slow starting summer of training would be abnormal for me. I just wanted to go out and see what I could do. I fell way into the back at the start. Into the 3rd section almost. I knew that after the 800 we went out fast and that people were gonna roll back. I tried to hold pace but was kinda going all over the place. Ran alone for a few middle laps, then caught up to Alex and Tony was around with me too. With 1200 to go I think, Alex and I surged to catch the next pack. With 800 to go I really kicked it up and passed the whole second pack from the beginning as Brandon was also chasing me. Good finish and a smart race, even though I finished kinda slow and so far back. I ran conservative in the beginning and finished strong. It shows there is a lot left.

Looked at the last time trial I did freshman year (I missed it sophomore and junior) and I went 10:44 in even splits. This year was way better obviously. I went 5:20 for the first, not all that even, but fairly easy, then went 5:05 for the next mile, picking people off. I had the midset that I could catch the people in front of me and that I belonged further up, because I was in the 3rd pack most of the race. It was a positive mindset and it seemed to work in general.

Cooled down on the track, talking to Corey, collecting the mostly positive vibes from everyone. We did way better than last year, shows we have a lot of natural talent to work with now and in the future. Great for our squad. A few of us stashed our stuff in Corey's suite, then went for a longer cool down in to the cemetary. Felt ok there not too sore. Calf Achilles still tight overall though.

Essentials: Stretch, hips

Forgot L7 and couldnt roll after we got back, but still stretched well. I am sore after since I walked back to Veale to shower and have my meeting. Good mileage today though, looking to get to around 60s this week, then bring it to 55+ after Sudeck, and hold that through the season. Also, got to bring in the doubles again. I think Thurs will be a good day for that. Meeting with Coach was positive, she knows my plan and that I can work on it. I also have other goals not running related that are going to be important to the team, and I am excited for those. Otherwise, now we have a speed workout in the books, lets get started on the goals I wrote down.
