Exercise Type: Run

Weather: Dece, a little warm

Comments:
Hmmmmmmm... This might take a while. I'm still working out how I feel about it.

First off, I'm glad I didn't go out at 5 minute pace like I had been considering. I went out just a hair under 5:30 pace and wound up a hair over. Now that we have that embarassing little tick out of the way, the good: I decided just beforehand I would pace myself to finish at 11 flat. I stayed pretty relaxed for the most part. My cardio was working harder than my legs, except for my inner thighs which was weird. That said, I wasn't straining too much when I finished up the the final stretch. Much better than killing it and still coming in in the 11:20's. I'm in better shape than the time shows, but I had been hoping going out 5:30 would let me bring the second mile back in about 5:10. I didn't feel relaxed enough to do that so I sort of chilled out at 11 minute pace.

Pros: Stayed pretty relaxed and felt very smooth. Form was good. Time was an improvement from either of the last 2 years.

Cons: Still slow enough to get lapped and finish wayyyyyy towards the back end of the team. Not coming in at 10:20 shape means I have a lot of work to brush my 8k times up.

Final thoughts: I hope that everyone stays healthy all season and the times I believe I will run won't matter. That said, if by some calamity it comes down to me to step up, I need to be ready to go and I can't afford to be costing the team a 28 minute 8k. I probably can't even really afford myself a PR over 27 if I'm running past Oberlin. So I'll do what I can to keep myself consistent between now and then.

Plan: I'm planning on morning swims Mon/Wed and morning easy doubles Tues/Thurs and it would be great if anyone reading this felt like joining. Just having someone to share the commitment with will make it much easier for me to stick with it.

If you've read this far, give yourself a pat on the back. You're a pro running-log creeper now. I'm not where I need to be (am I ever?) but I'm feeling driven right now so let's do this.
