MLK: First Day o' School

August 27, 2012 (Afternoon)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
Today was the first day of class and the first day of official workouts. Only had one class this morning, and just chilled in 145. I then had all afternoon to hang out. Ill be doing lab work then or HW or grading probs, but it felt like a long time to get to practice. We started later too (at 5). Eventually got dressed and all set up for our MLK tempo. Its been a while since I have done one, but for some reason, it felt so familiar... I had some digestive issues before we left, might be from getting used to the food at Fribs... idk. So during the warm up, (WARNING: GRAPHIC DESCRIPTIONS) my butt kinda hurt from my upset stomach. Very uncomfortable. I felt better during the drills and the actual tempo though. It was kinda humid from the rain, and I ditched the glasses just incase the rain came back.

Coach grouped us up by our intersquad time. Since my intersquad was kinda like a tempo, I got put in the 6:05-6:15 range, for 5 miles. I think I did 5 miles all last year, so Its kinda cool to start there, and maybe work up to 6 at the end of the year. I started out in a group with Brandon, Chris, Freshman Phil, and Austin. We were clipping along right under 6 pace. It honsetly felt so easy to me, way easier than I usually feel on MLK. I had a good tempo and my cardio wasnt feeling taxed. There were points where it was hard to get my legs moving though. Went out to the 2.5 turn around. Started feelin a little tired on the way back, but the pace didnt slow down much. Everyone was done after 4 except for me and Chris, and we brought it in strong. Splits were

6:03, 5:55, 5:56, 5:54, 5:58

Very consistent, and it felt easy HR was around 165 when I finished, right in the ball park. I know I can get my tempo pace back down to that 5:40 or faster region, and that will be good training. Good tempo.

My stomach was acting up again at this point, so I headed over to the track early. The bathrooms were locked, so I went to Starbuck. Someone must have died in the bathroom, since I knocked and no one replied. I got fed up and went over to Wade. There was someone else in that one! I then ran back over to Starbucks, and as I got up the stairs, some one was going back into the bathroom! I was furious. At this point, Gibby was leaving the Village, so I tailgated and ran down the hallways looking for the public bathroom. I had no idea where I was and just kept wandering down hallways. I eventually made it to the suite in house 2, and their door was open, so I ran in there to take a shit. SO clutch, thanks guys. When I came out, everyone was done with there accelerations, so I did one on my own then did the rest on my cool down back to Veale. I must have added on 0.5 miles running through the Village though lol.

Lift down stairs right when we got back, because we were concerned about getting to dinner on time.

Essentials: Stretch, roll, L7, ice hammy

Ehh didnt have ample time to get all the essentials in, which I am mad about. Missed hips and abs. I can fit in tomorrow. Legs felt great overall today. Right hammy is a little sore though. Also, gonna get orthotics figured out tomorrow. Tomorrow will be a nice recovery off day, gonna swim and bike maybe, and ice bath.

Still, real legit first day of practice, a lot of fun hanging with everybody. We did get out late, and my butthole felt like it was on fire most of the run, but hey thats what happens sometimes.
