August 29, 2012 (Afternoon)
Exercise Type: Run
Comments:
Practice again started at 5. I had all afternoon again to chill and get some work done. I think I locked in my grad school list. Ill pass it by some folks before apps open up next week... Anyways we left kinda late too since we were talking about the rest of the week. Big group headed out up through the meadow to the big field on upper MLK. There we drilled an got into groups for the fartlek. Didnt feel great heading out on the warm up. I was also confused about my grouping since coach didnt really say anything to me... Whatever it worked itself out.
After drilling ended up in the second group, which was good since I was the only upperclassman. I could show the freshmen what we were doing. We started up the grass stretch where we do mile repeats. I hate that section since I fucked my ankle up so badly there last Halloween. It still haunts me... Anyways after a little warm up we went into the intervals. The order was 45,45,1:00,2:00,3:00,3:30,4:00,3:30,3:00,2:00,1:00,45,45 (a pyramid). It definitely felt long. We did our loops around first lake and up to Lee. Kinda went all over the place. We were moving on a lot of the intervals at a quick good pace. I felt strained trying to keep up, really pushing my legs. I didnt feel all that tired and taxed though. Near the end, I started to get some bad stomach cramps and gas, which slowed me down a lot. Overall, I felt uncomfortable and choppy, not very smooth. Got to work on getting that groove. I tried to keep the recovery up a little though, rather than a crawl. That makes it more like a true fartlek. Last excuse, my glasses were bouncing all over the place and it was annoying.
Cooled down back to Veale with Gabe, Sergio, Phil and Tony. We had a nice pack for most of the fartlek. Basically as soon as we got back, we hit the weights.
Essentials: Stretch, roll, hammies, L7, abs
Pretty good and efficient essentials. I am happy I got some med ball hammies in. Always got to watch those. I ice bathed yesterday, ill try to get in tomorrow or friday too... Legs felt good for the most part today, just sluggish when trying to pick it up. I dont like going fast on the uneven ground too, its still hard for me in the back of my mind. The uneven ground made my knees a little tight at points, but I shook it out. Also, got the script for the orthotics, so Ill call tomorrow to get those settled.
Gabe got the distance on the GPS. Honestly, I have no idea how far we ran lol...
