not so classic

first meet of the year. its been a while since i was this calm before a race. might be because it was just allegheny there, maybe i've just finally got it down. warmed up and all that jazz after pictures. i was in charge of group one and our set pace to go out was 5:10-5:15 pace. so when the race started i went up front and the whole race fell in behind me. allegheny was content sitting, and it wasnt as bad as the weather of last year but it was still kind of hot. we went through the mile in 5:32. pretty slow, and that's pretty much my fault because i literally was in control of the whole race's pace. after we went through the mile chris immediately made a move and i knew it was going to happen but i tried to hang for a while. lost a lot of ground from this point all the way up the hill though. quite a few people passed me. after hitting the top of the hill i regained composure and picked it back up. i know the hill was my only weak point really, and it was a mental thing not physical, because i had so much energy for the rest of the race. i ran a bit of the back end with mercer and drew but eventually they fell back a bit, and i was alone chasing the two allegheny kids in front of me with david kind of in my sights. if i had been able to stick with him on the hill, i would have been running with him, so its a shame that i didnt handle the hill right. it also would have been easier to do it with someone rather than by myself. but i was proud of my ability to bounce back. starting "fast" isnt my ideal race, and even though it wasnt actually fast, it feels faster when you are the leader. i dont like getting passed by people like that either. i like to pick people off as opposed to the opposite. i'm glad coach had me lead the group though. valuable experience. i feel like i could have kept going the next 2k. i wasnt nearly tired enough by the end. happy with the result. lots of time to fix things. also, i really realized today, that on race day i'm not very friendly before and after racing. my bad, but that's just how i am. don't bother me.
