Exercise Type: Run
Comments:
A decently long day. Got a lot done though which is good. I got to Veale with enough time to chill and get ready for practice. My shin was a little fatigued after yesterday, so I got out my sleeve to wear out at practice. Workouts got sent out late, but I was fine with whatever we were doing. It turned out to be hills in the meadow, which we havnt done in a while (or at least I dont really remember doing them in a while). Seemed like a smaller group today, but we all headed out for a warm up up through the meadow and back down through the sketch trails. CKells and I peed like 3 times on the warm up, I hope that means we are hydrated.
Coach had the "1000m" looped mapped out. I had no Idea where it went as she was explaining it, but it is an old loop I quickly remembered. Coach told us to take extra care in our form on the drills, which was good for us all. After drills, we kinda split into two groups. I didnt really know where to go, but it didnt matter since I was on my own wavelength for this workout. The deal was, run the long hill, come down, run the short hill, come down, then loop around the field and do a strong strider to finish. I started out with a bunch of people for the first hill. On the way down though, I took it real easy to watch my ankles. I got dropped so quickly, and ended up being the last person with Brandon. From then on, we were on our own, because I kept going slower and slower down the hill to watch the legs, and we kept drifting further and further apart. The hill sections were very strong for the most part though. I think I got just as good a workout on my own as I would have in traffic. I love hills, and consider them a strength. This workout was meant to be an intro to getting into the hill workouts. I feel I did just that, running smart (for me) and getting the rhythm of hill running. It honestly felt kinda odd, but a good step to getting into strong hill form.
Brandon did 5 and I did the last 3 essentially alone. Gabe helped me bring it in on my last one, which was legit. THe loop was shorter than we though, so we had to do a longer cool down through little italy and campus. Legs felt pretty tired on the cool down, but my shin was ok today actually. It was tough in my trainers, they got a lot of sweat. SPikes would have been nicer.
As soon as we got back, basically all of us went down into the pool.
Essentials: Stretch, roll, L7, abs, icebath
Pretty good stretch after swimming. I wanted to get more abs in but Coach came over to show me the film she took today. Since I was in the back, there werent any clips of me, so it was kinda pointless... Whatever I know what I need to do. Decent ice bath for the lower legs too. I have time on friday now so I can get another one in this week. Im actually not "bumbed" that I wont be at Calvin this year. I think that getting another week of workouts in and racing later is smarter for me (Barnes agreed which made me feel better). My goal is to see improvement through out the season, and this is just another step, a chance to hone my skills in the minors for a little longer before jumping up to the majors. Its a smart and positive move for me. Calvin is a big deal, and its important for the younger guys to experience that too.
