good day overall. plan we set at the meeting was for me to go with the top group, and i again i don't regret it one bit. i stand by my thought that if i want to finish a race anywhere near them, i have to go out faster than i may want to. practice. coach told me after the race back at the hotel we will probably do two groups at all ohio, and that i'm going to lead the second one, made up of me, tim and aaron. i'm glad she's forcing me in to the responsibilities, i think its only going to make me better. but back to the race, where i went out with chris, david, ethan, phil and mercer, shooting for 5:05 mile. we were a little slow. i thought it was 5:07, but everyone elses says it was 5:12, so i guess i just heard wrong. we were nicely packed up until then, but i'm not sure when we lost mercer. i stuck with the group for just under two miles before starting to fall. tim passed me just before 4k, and aaron got me just before 6k. i never really fell apart, but i was definitely slowing down. i think i passed about as many people that passed me through the whole race. pretty even with where i started at. i pred by about 30 seconds, which is nice, but i still have progress to make. i still wasn't tired enough at the end of the race. my legs felt fine. i felt exactly how coach said not to. ugh. baby steps. i keep trying to tell myself i can't make the leap in one giant step. 3 weeks to prepare for next time. i need to feel the same racing mentality i had in track. fearless. i need the almost stupid idea that i can beat anyone. like i had at all ohio in track. i took the lead with full intentions of winning that race, and even though i didn't, i don't regret the move. looking forward to the time where i actually help this team.
