First off, nice job to everyone who ran this and a big thank you to the spectators who helped me not totally give up. Special congrats go to Gilad who I believe is finally coming into the form he expected he'd be in and ran an awesome race.
From anyone's perspective except mine this was a good race for me. I felt pretty rough from about a mile onwards, especially at the end of the first loop when my back was already really tired. Caught 2 useful splits and two that were definitely wrong... 14:32 through 4k so I actually negative split by a hair but I felt like I was running much slower in the second half of the race. Mentally I was good at the start but didn't have any killer instinct at all once I got to the halfway point. I feel kind of bad complaining about a PR like this but my expectations for my season are much higher than everyone else's for me are. I'm coming into form really well aerobically and I have nothing explosive in my legs yet. I honestly believe I can run under 27 minutes this season and I was hoping to use this race as a stepping stone. 28 minutes was my goal for this and while that may seem unrealsitic to the few of you who will read this, keep in mind that the past few months are by far the best training I've ever had. I'm glad I was able to PR off of such a poor mental effort but I want to run for my team and today I did not do that. One of my goals is (was?) to make the top 10 and be on the conference squad. While it's great that we have almost everyone who's healthy under 29, that's not the time range I expect of myself. I know that I am capable of more and I WILL run like it at all-Ohio.
Again, a big thank you to everyone who came to watch; that was great.
