May 13, 2009 (Morning)
Exercise Type: Run
Weather: 60F, little breeze
Comments:
Slept in a bit 'til nearly 8, had breakfast, then hit the roads. It didn't seem too windy yet and I was eager to knock out this AT.
Did circuits, then stretched/foam-rolled. Felt NOTHING from the L pes or the L heel on the warm-up over to UWRF, which was great. Did 4 strides in front of Stocker's office at Hunt, where the start of the campus 5K loop is.
This is an old "turkey trot" 5K route (when I ran it back in '99). I remembered all the markings, though you can still see a couple of them. First mile's a gradual downhill, the 2nd mile flat, and the 3rd mile a couple ups/downs, then ending uphill.
5:31 for a relaxed opener downhill; a little faster than I thought, but fine. Focused on keeping the breathing relaxed and good form on the 2nd mile, weaving through students in passing time. Hit the deuce at 11:03 (5:32). Slowed down in the last mile, oweing to the hills, especially the 250mish finishing climb. Ran 17:21 overall. N'bad, n'bad. Felt really strong. I had "Born to Run" by the BOSS in my head for the first 2 miles, then "Easy Lover" by Phil Collins to bring 'er home! :)
Cooled down through campus, a little clunky at first, then felt great on the mile home.
Gotta lift this afternoon, pack shit up, then bust down to La Crosse to get Dan. BUSY DAY, and a BIG DAY tomorrow!
