Salesianum: slightly less death than potomac

October 6, 2012 (Afternoon)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: breezy, cloudy ...and beautiful course

Comments:
i got to the course ready for the challenge. as i jogged the course, my legs felt loose and ready to run.
...but 2hrs later when i went to warm up for my own race my legs werent feeling so race-ready anymore. i was sore, tired etc. tried to push thru the warm up in the hopes that my muscles wud loosen up but it didnt happen. so - nervous on the start line, i kept re-tying my shoes, and inevitably the gun went off while i was still tying my shoe (of course this wud happen to me). i managed to spint back up the pack and (hopefully) no one rly noticed.
made sure to make use of the first section of the course in the woods and work the slight declines. i rly felt my teammates here.
but then came the first hill....my quads just couldn't do it. i managed to keep a jog nearly to the top but i walked one or 2 steps which i was rly dissapointed in myself for. as soon as i got over that hill i got refocused and did managed to get rolling again and by the large downhill i was able to completely give into the gravity. hill after hill, the rest of the course went pretty much the same way.
i kept seeing rihanna ahead of me and knew if she cud do it i cud do it
along the road (that long stretch of slight incline) of boredome where every1s mind wanders - i managed to not give into that. it was not a death march (tho it may have looked that way...lol) i stayed focused the entire time, and passed quite a few ppl. then at the real hill, i barely even got up it and lost some ground, but got it back on the downhill.
it was death at that last section and i swore i just couldnt do it. but after enough cheering (eli, scott etc were all great), i began thinking about making a move. and by the time anthony was at that corner i found my form again and worked towards him and passed 1 person. at that last steep hill i pushed as hard as i possibly cud tho it felt like i was going snails pace. finally got over the top and the rest was gravity just as anthony said itd be.
i collapsed before i got thru the finish shoot. exhaustion doesn't rly cover it. cori had picked me wild flowers :) eventually had enough energy to stand up and join my enthusiastic team.
the cooldown was sooo hard and soooo LONG. got thru it and kno i'll feel that much less sore in the morning.
turns out WE GOT 3RD PLACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and the boys got 2nd!! and with just half the team here today (only 10 girls, 1 of which not running). when i first looked at the results i thought there had been a mistake.
i actually don't kno how i made it thru that course today.

bus ride home was...long. almost almost 4 hours, during which i REALLY needed a bathroom. i love safeway for being open after 9.
L.O.N.G. day
