October 7, 2012 (Morning)
Exercise Type: Run
Weather: overcast, light breeze
Comments:
shorter warm-up than I'd prefer to do but I had some "issues" and I had to make a last-minute pit stop at the A&W.
Anyway.
I decided to race this so I left the watch at home and just pace off DF until Commonwealth Ave. I've only had bad luck with 10k's this year so I thought playing it conservatively would be the best idea.
They had trouble with the starting gun and when they finally got it off NO took it out quick. But I never flinched. I let DF take it out and I matched his pace. When I reached the top of the hill leaving Donovans I actually felt a little fatigue and self-doubt but I quickly recovered. When we were passing O'Donel my instincts told me to make a move but I continued to stick with the plan.
Cruised until we neared the left turn near the North Atlantic and then made my move. Pretty much in the same spot I did last year. And after pushing it on Smallwood Drive going down to Park Avenue my time was pretty much the same as last year too. 32:52 for first place.
Fun way to end the season I suppose. And nice to get a respectable 10k time because my last two performances were not up to par.
Cooled down with DF, AB, and AB with Benson on the trails.
I don't feel sore today but I know it's okay to take some rest now.
Side note: I won 500 Air Miles for winning this race.
10/12/2012 EDIT: DF said that we went through 5k in 16:40. That means that I did my second 5k in 16:15. Now I have regrets that I didn't push harder from the start.
