Wow. What a team. All across the board it was a great day of GDS Cross Country. It was the most inspiring thing to be in a pack with Timmy, Zeke (Number 1! With a personal best and an almost 6-minute improvement) and Ben. I never heard any splits during the race, but I think a little after a mile in, I made a move on a huge pack of St. Alban's guys, passing them on the downhill and making some ground on my teammates, breaking the final St. Alban's guy. At the banked hill I threw in a surge that I never would have dreamed of doing last year; Anthony shouted, "Enjoy it, Liam! Enjoy how strong you are!" Though no Glory Days, this race went by quicker than any other I have ever been in, regardless of distance. Even the leg of the 4x400 I ran at Holton-Arms felt longer. This was the second best time I've clocked and a 3 minute 3 second course record. After crossing the creek and hearing footfalls 20 meters back, I knew I had to push it up the grass hill so that we could finish 1, 2, 3, 4. We did--by a significant margin. This day was definitely a high point in my running career, my only regret being that I could've pushed more in the last 1200m. However, Anthony commented that I could've placed better if I hadn't been finishing with other hoppers and that he had been in such a position before. Overall I had fun. I believe it was this meet last year when I fully realized that I LIKE running--an elusive feeling that slips in an out of one's consciousness with the bad races and the good, the frustration and deep, enduring despair that envelops one after a sub-par workout or race.
