Hardesty Up/Down

November 4, 2012 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
Slept in, read a little bit, then packed up and headed for Hardesty. I was pretty tired yet from yesterday but had a great ascent: kept it very easy, focused on mechanics (had a beeping watch every :05 to remind me of lumbar and neck neutral). About a mile from the top it began to feel like work, but I knew I was going fast, so I let myself push a little bit. Was hoping for 60, which I ran post-Autumn leaves last year, and wound up with 58:44, at least tied for the fastest ever.

Sat up there a while to let the HR go down, then decided...to just go straight down. The plan was to do the 20 loop, but - this is my last shot at rest pre-TNF, so why be greedy?

Had a spirited descent (39:xx).

Rest of the day: had a crazy thought today about going to Church! Looked it up on the phone, but was too late for the traditional masses at St Mary's (Catholic) so I decided on the PM mass.

That afternoon: grocery shop, cook, clean, "lay out"(!!) on the deck, reading (it was 70s and sunny/dry!), then cleaned up, went to the library for a bit, then walked one block over to the Church.

Interesting experience. I'd never been to church on my own before. "Like...EVER.". It was a "LifeTeen Mass" -- that means it's supposed to be lighter and more energetic. Other than the opening and closing tunes (played with a set drum), it was very conventional. The sermon was VERY scholarly and academic; excellent, but somewhat ill-fitting for what was supposed to be a "kids mass".

Two main points, highly-inter-related and worthy of discussion:

- The first two commandments
- The "necessities" for absolute faith:
1.) heart
2.) soul
3.) mind
4.) strength

Enormous comparability to the "King, Warrior, Magician, Lover" text.

The only thing I frankly did not like was the thinly-veiled politicization about "the sanctity of life" being, apparently, priority #1 in the election tomorrow...huh...

Post-church: BEER and more reading at Ninkasi! :)
