High Point into Middleton and back (same route as it has been)-
It snowed about three inches today but stopped coming down before I ran. Worried about being cold and wet for the whole run, I was a bit overdressed. I took it slow so as not to aggravate my knee and my stomach was upset, but I was fairly upbeat anyway for the first seven miles.
With about a mile left on my way back, I saw a large fire ahead of me and immediately thought "oh, someone is having a bonfire" but when I got closer I realized their house was burning down. I crossed the street to make sure I didn't get in the way as they stood in front watching it burn while waiting for the fire department to arrive. When I was across the street, one of the neighbors shouted "Is everyone out?" and they responded that yes everyone was. I looked up and saw the billowing black cloud that was their house as recently as when I ran by on my way out with a dark sadness for them and what they're going through. It rattled me. I immediately sped up a ton and wanted to get away from there. It didn't look like there was anything I could do but pray for them, so that's all I did. I guess it's a reminder to be thankful for everything I've got in this life and never forget that.
