Roll of Quarters workout

February 13, 2013 (Afternoon)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
Good workout today, weather was good but the baseball team was on the outdoor track, so we were all inside. Legs were feeling a little sore last night after the hurdles. Hadnt heard anything about racing during the day, so I just rolled into practice ready to go. The entries got put up as we were heading out for the warm up. There were talks of a limited squad because we only had one bus and some people were prepping for UAAs. I didnt really think much of it since I hype up the All City Championships a ton. I was excited. I didnt see my name on the entries and just assumed I didnt make the cut. At first, I was kinda pissed, but I guess there was a good reason, one I couldnt fight and didnt want to fight. If this new system is going to work, people got to work with it. It honestly made me feel more driven to perform outdoors when that rolled around. On the warm up through Little Italy and back Euclid I cracked some jokes about it, but inside I was confused.

Got back and went through the medium drills and switched out shoes. People were racing different things, so the workout got cut down a little. It was originally 15 x400, but for those racing we switched to 10 x400. I was prepared to do both. The usual group all fit together which was good.

Started out with a 2 min tempo type thing to get the legs rollin. I didnt take it too hard, but felt ready to go after. Then we rolled into it. Shooting for around 78s which would be a low 16 5k. Its also good for me because thats steeple pace. Ended up around the middle of the pack each time, went through the first 2 faster than the second, but for the most part (with the track being crowded) we were consistent. At about #7, my shins started to feel real sore and tight. It was hard to control my lower legs on the track. Upper body and my confidence felt good, but it was sloppy down in my lower legs. Not a great feeling. I was gonna stop at 10 anyways. Coach pulled me over and told me she forgot to enter me in the race, which I didnt know, so I guess I was doing 10 anyways. Felt great even near the end even if my shins got sore. They felt fine and loosened up on the cooldown though. Splits were:

2:00
79,78,78,77,76,77,76,77,76,75

Cooled down Via northside and Wade Oval, nice and easy felt good to get outside after all those reps on the track. Got back and we didnt have strength today, which was a relief.

Essentials: Stretch, L7, roll, shins&calves, abs, ice bath

Good stretch out and worked the shins a little. The ice bath was terrible though. I miss the tub. Its not as cold, but the jet makes it excruciating. So prickly. Ehh my lower legs feel better after though.

I am glad that I am racing now. This is the Greater Cleveland Championships, one of the biggest meets of the year. I love to hype it up. I didnt get to run last year which sucked, so now I am back, rose up from the gutter to put the city on my back. A symbol for this great city... But yea one more race before I prepare for doin my job outdoors. Its just as important and will be jut as fun.

Shoutout to the Girls team and Gilad for reading my log everyday (if you have the free time) tnx
