Greater Cleveland Championships: All-City

February 15, 2013 (Night)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
Tired this morning even though I got a lot of sleep. Hung around after class until the bus left for BW. Havnt been on a bus yet this season for a track meet. Uneventful I was excited to race again though. Got to BW real early and hung around, eating snacks and talking to Chris and Phil. The meet was running pretty quickly actually, so we warmed up a lot earleir and got into it quicker. Me Gilad, Ben B and Ben D and Phil were all racing the 3k, and Chris also joined after his mile to pace the first 2k. We all warmed up, went a bit further past Runn Rd, then came back. Legs were feeling a little fatigued, normal warm up feeling. I guess it had been a while since Chris and I ran Thursday morning. Gilad wanted to do another 2 min tempo, so I joined and did the 1 min tempo with him. Felt tough to get my legs going.

Things were going much quicker, so we did drills and stretched and then spiked up. Striders felt fine, but my ankle and foot were a little unstable overall.

Felt confident going into the race, we had a good pack and Chris was pacing us. Goal was to hit 37s the whole way, and I was told not to fall off because when you fall off its tough to make it back. I did a fun little thing with my rip off pants at the start line, because this is All-City. Its a show for the whole crowd. Anyways yea the gun went off and we all ended up in a great pack together. Gilad went ahead after the Oberlin pack while I followed Chris. Kept the pace great for the first 1k I think we were on target. Phil and Ben D were right behind me and Chris. Near the mile mark, I started to feel it. Started to drop off and Chris went ahead. On one of the back stretches, Ben D went to the outside and passed me and went with Chris. At that point I started to fade hard. I eventually caught a BW kid, but kept falling. I just didnt have the strength it felt. I was very tired but didnt feel like I was going that fast. Pretty painful... I kept flying around and tried to push a lot on the last 2 laps all alone. Came in at a time very close to my PR, but no sub 9:30 which is what I was looking for... Lots of times in the past I let it slide when I have the chance to make a move, but today I felt unprepared. Its kinda frustrating, since I know that I have been sacrificing some of my running for grad schools and the future... I feel torn right now kinda. Very similar start to my season in sophomore year, which slowly deteriorated as we went outdoors. I need to keep this on the upswing, with training and mentality. I equate it to my senior year of high school, when I just started running good times out of nowhere. I didnt think about it, I just did it, and Im gonna do it again.

Good cool down with Chris and Ben B on the route we did for warm up. Legs felt pretty tired, especially when we stopped.

Essentials: Stretch

Pretty weak stretching, but legs just feel tired not sore or anything. Get a good shake out tomorrow. This is the last race for a while, till Muskingum I think. I need to take each chance I get to get stronger, and to keep up with the HM once a week. It will come back so fast. Im going to be missing a few weeks to travel, but thats all part of the deal, and I need to work with it. I am ready and excited, because no matter what I am racing to have fun, and thats what I truly care about.
