"Subterranean Hunt!"

March 12, 2013 (Night)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: high 50s, nice

Comments:
Cliff led this hunt, but had some notable absences: it was only me, Cliff, Jason, and Lewis. No Dano or Tommy; and LB's had some knee pain, so he was "licking nuts".

Cliff led us NORTH, away from the trails. We were running pretty quick, too, like 6:30-:40 pace. That was fine by me, as I was working on my "opening up"/improved heel recovery stride. We kept going, past Amazon, through downtown, through all the way to the River! A first.

We got to the VRC Bridge...when suddenly we went down the embankment to the riverside...to a large storm drain...like 7-10' diameter...and went in!

It was AWESOME. Our collective went from bitchy-grumbling to "awesomeness" immediately: we ran through about 6" of water, about 100m, to a giant "chamber", where we had to scale up and over a storm trap thingy, then kept running a bit. I was really hoping we'd go back for like, a mile, but we had to turn back.

On top of that, Cliff brought his military-grade green lazer, so we had a "dance party" in there. It was REALLY cool.

We finally got out and was running back, pretty close to Ninkasi. Just then I reached back and felt my credit card, which I'd had in my shorts at lunch. So I said, "Hey Fellas, anyone interested in a MID-RUN beer?" No arguments, there!

So we stopped AT Ninkasi, got two pints (Tricerahops and a new English IPA) and shared 'em: "Round the Horn", sip and pass L, sip and pass L... It ROCKED.

From there it was a long, 4-mile run back to LB's. I was EXHAUSTED. Part real fatigue, but obvious allergies. That sucked, but the bulk of the night was EPIC!

Wore a new pair of PI trail shoes...NOT a fan...
