McKenzie Highway Bike

June 4, 2009 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Bike

Weather: high-50s, rain/overcast

Comments:
Rolled into Bend/Sisters around 1ish. BIG STORMS. Hail and strong rain in Bend, then again in Sisters, just as we wanted to leave for the bike. We instead waited it out at this coffee place, then left from there.

TERRIFIC BIKE -- probably the best of the trip. Rode McKenzie highway (OR242) from Sisters to the Pass: 15 miles long, 2000' elevation gain! AMAZING SCENERY and literally 3 cars, and NONE in the last 6mi to the pass, as it was still closed. Still LOTS of snow up there, but plowed so it was ride-able.

Hung out in the lookout for a bit, then HAULED F-ING ASS down the hill and all the way into town. The grade was perfect such that (A) we could fly but (B) we could still pedal with enough resistance to get in a good workout! VERY COOL!

No post-ride stop in Sisters; instead we hauled to Springfield to hit Two Friends with Matt and "other Joe", who's living in the little room this summer. Dan and I added on a Black Butte tap at Max's to top off a great night! :)

GREAT TO BE BACK!
