Amazon tempo

May 7, 2013 (Afternoon)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: 70? Nice, slight breeze

Comments:
Pretty good morning of work; another pool visit at noon, so I ran from the pool to Amazon.

The idea was another 3-mile tempo; the goals was to go AS fast as I did two weeks ago: no slowing down, either because of fatigue, or shitty mechanics.

It'd be a tough one today; while the stride felt pretty good, the legs were heavy from the weekend. Did 2+ miles of warm-up, strides, and some drills, but felt pretty sluggish. Here we go.

Felt pretty solid on the first half-mile, but much less springy than two weeks ago. Managed a 5:31 but I felt the effort. I thought I'd speed up in the second rep, but I didn't - I faded just a bit. Going into the third, I was determined to NOT slow off or bomb out. I ran it aggressively, especially over the last 8. Astonishingly, I got another 5:31.

I'm happy with the workout, but a little bummed it took that much effort. But...it was understandable, given the volume and intensity of last week.

I thought the stride was solid, BUT my back was sore. In retrospect, I might not have been "firecracker" enough - might've been too tall, which likely made me slower, and my back crankier...

2+ mile cooldown. Wound up doing 3 sets of 10 pull-ups before and after it was said and done.
