June 6, 2013 (Morning)
Exercise Type: Run
Weather: 80? Didn't feel that warm...
Comments:
The group workout for tonight was 1200s; too long for me. So I ran solo, leaving work at 6:15, doing a 3-mile warm-up so I'd be loose and ready. Did x11 pull-ups, then a lap of strides once I arrived. The group was just finishing, but there were a few odd guys out there, as well as some little kid tracksters milling around.
This is the 3rd (or more?) time I've done this workout. I love repeating workouts every 3-4 weeks or so. I felt like, given my fitness, that I could do 68s/lap for the 5s. This would equate to an 85s 500m. NBD, right?
Well, I didn't anticipate how damn stiff and fatigued I'd be, from Hardesty, and from 45 mi in the past three days.
It was a little windy on the backstretch, as well, which really knocked down my pace, especially solo. The efforts felt GOOD and STRONG, though - I just couldn't move very fast.
Did four sets, as I did a month ago. While I was bummed I couldn't run faster, there was none of that "track desperation" (e.g. crushing pain/fatigue from the intensity). I felt strong; just couldn't move.
89.8, (51), 33.6
89.1, (42), 32.5
88.8, (49), 32.1
88.4, (49), 32.3
(=jog rest between 5s and 2s)
Took a full 4min between sets (did 3:30 last time). A little dismayed at the 200 speeds, but not really. Stride felt good and powerful...just TIRED! The aggregate 500 times were, on average, about a half-second faster, which was good.
Jogged a mile cooldown back to the car. Felt pretty good!
