Hardesty Up/Down

June 15, 2013 (Afternoon)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
Got a bunch of stuff done in the AM: cleaned up, did some laundry, read MORE of "The Game", went to the coffee shop to work on my email to all my former patients (took FOREVER to collect 280 emails!). Finally drove out to Hardesty, hoping for a bit of heat.

This whole week...or three?...I've had a lot of self-doubt:

- Did I overtrain?
- Are my legs fried?
- Is my central nervous system burned out? ("I GOTTA have a central nervous system!)

After reading a ton of "The Game", I was like, "Fuck this - you're fine; you need to BELIEVE in YOURSELF". So rather than pussy foot even more than necessary, I went for this run. But not haphazardly or recklessly.

The goal was to run up Hardesty in total heart-rate control: <150! This is the "Maffetone easy HR"; this would ensure I'd do nothing to overtax my system.

Took a zyrtek (on an empty stomach, oops) and had some orange juice on my way to the TH.

The ascent felt AWESOME. SUPER easy! It was, once again, a total "race": how fast could I run and not over-run the HR? Deep yoga breathing, super-efficient (seemingly). It was really hard to keep it at 150. For the most part, it was at like 152-4... The average wound up being 151.

Was hoping I could run truly fast, but "only" ran 66:30. Given the fact that my "95%" effort PR is 58 (and that 150 BPM equates to like, 6:30 pace on flat?), I was very happy.

Achilles were both sore, but otherwise felt fine.

HAMMERED the descent: I decided my QUAAADZ needed one more aggressive thrash (I've done >1K' vert only one other time since camp!), so I went for it. The stride felt GREAT! However I did feel some cramping in the R abs...not a good sign.

Split 36:45, which is >1min PR (38:x was my previous). GOOD RUN! Needed that.

Drove to Oakridge to have a beer with the fellas, who did a 38-mile run that finished there.
