What can I say about this one? I was about 50" slower than last year. Then again, mostly everyone was slower except for DF, who won. Many people complained about the heat but I don't think that was a major factor on me being slower. I think it's because I don't have the base of mileage that I did last year. I've had a string of quality workouts for the last while but it's difficult to put them all together in a race situation.

The race? Well, I'm happy that I went out with DF and JA from the beginning. I left my watch at home with a gameplan to just stick with JA as long as I could. We went through the first k in about 3:08. I didn't fall off the pace but the guys picked it up playing a game of "cat and mouse."

Sometimes you break the pack but sometimes the pack breaks you - and the latter happened today. I lost contact with the leaders at about 1.8k in.

I'd try to catch up with JF and gain a few metres but then it would quickly be nullified. It was hard trying to change gears to my tops speed. All the while, I could hear PP behind me so I kept trying to speed up on Empire avenue.

When I saw the 7k marker I was able to finally start moving and held off the attack. However, I never made any ground on JF.

This was a humbling experience and convinced me to skip the Tely this year. I did say back in May that I wouldn't peak until September so no need to get frustrated about this race.

Anyway, I cooled down with LCP with Benson in tow. Always great to cool down when the streets are closed to traffic. Then went to brunch with GMacG, AB, and JM.

Took a long nap on MF's couch when I went up there to water his plants.
