The joke at work today was the other Metallurgist's cat. His fiance and him have several cats together. One is named Nuggets. Recently nuggets was having "problems" so they decided that he was gonna get his "parts" removed. This lead to many jokes about how nuggets lost his nuggets.
I met the maintenance guys today along with the guy who services all the dies. Also a customer visited about new business so I helped with that. Lastly I packaged some samples. There was also a reception for the other metallurgist who is getting married next weekend. There was lots of good food.
Men's 5k final: I really do not understand what the Kenyans were doing out there. They had Farah. Seriously when Koech put in that 61 for the second lap they gaped him by like 30 meters. When I watched the video I thought it was a genius strategy. Farah likes to get out then settle in the back for a few early laps. I thought it was a great tactic by the Kenyans. When Farah backed off and started drifting back they went to the front and put in their surge. They were pretty far out front and it didn't seem like Farah really was going to move and respond to it. They opened up a sizable lead. Why not keep pushing?? Koech is a sub 12:50 guy. Why not try it? You haven't won anything sitting and kicking. Try a different tactic. I'm not saying Farah loses but at least then he's gotta work and prove he can win when someone forces him out of his comfort zone. But it was not to be. The race slowed and Farah won as he typically does with a blistering last lap. He is the master of that and it was proved again.
Women's 800 semis: America putting 3 women in the final is awesome. We have two legitimate contenders in Marteniz and Montano and a young gun gathering experience in Wilson. This race will be awesome and bodes well both for medals this year and for the future.
Men's 1500 semis: The women's 8 was good. The men's 15 was bad. I agree with letsrun asking why Lomong even ran the 15. But I still expected him to make the final. Him missing it reaffirmed that he should have run the 5. Leo also going out was bad for me. He needed a good performance in the final to back up his Olympic silver last year. He also still needs a contract (maybe he got one while I was on vacation and out of it). This did not help either and shows how hit and miss he can be.
Another day running in a shirt. It rained all day
