Idiotic Statements from commentators

August 17, 2013 (Afternoon)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
It's been unseasonably cool here so it's been nice for running. I feel like I'm getting a little shape back. I feel smooth running again.

Got my car serviced today then kinda chilled. Watched a bunch of soccer. 2 matches from the start of the Premier League and watched the world champs. Solid day.

Watching the World champs is where I got the title for this log. First off the little intro video they show highlights athletes. I guess its supposed to get us ready for the amazing track stuff we're gonna see shortly. However less than half of the athletes in it are actually competing in the World Champs. The others are hurt. I thought that was stupid. Then we get to the things the commentators actually said. First about Shannon Rowburry. "I wouldn't be surprised if she medals here." Are you serious distance commentator man?! She has no chance. No American women has ever finished higher than 7th in the w5k. Also as your hope for a medal you picked the women who doesn't even want to run the 5k. They acknowledged both of those facts in the broadcast. The American record holder is running and she was barely mentioned. Come on. Also where is Tim Hutchinson? He is much better.

The second was said before the 100H final. "[Brianna Rollins] has never faced competition of this level this year." Duh! This the world championship final. Of course its the best in the world. That's the point. Like she doesn't know the other girls are good. It's like saying before the super bowl "I hope Tom Brady knows the other team is good." Of course he does. It's the super bowl.

The actual racing today was good. W5k was dece with Defar winning. Never really in doubt and no Americans in contention as expected. 100H was cool too. Rollins fighting back from a poor start to take down Sally Pearson. Who by the way is the greatest interviee ever. Look up her interview after she won silver in Beijing. Its a classic. W4x4 was also awesome. Too bad the US lost with all the injuries but it was still cool watching it come down to the wire.
