Trailwork w/OD, Chris, Bill

August 11, 2013 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Walk

Comments:
Met OD up at PCT TH for one last day of trail work. It was to be a big miles, but hopefully low-tree trail day. We had to start at Gold Lake/Maiden Peak trail, and from there go up Maiden and to the Finish/back to PCT: nearly 15 miles!

Two other fellas met us (Bill and Chris) to help out, which was nice, but...almost unnecessary.

I wanted to get a bit of a workout in, so I carried the 40lb chainsaw pack...the WHOLE day, including all the way up Maiden. I was by far the youngest guy (OD's 57, Bill's in his 50s, and Chris is maybe 40), so I figured if I carried the pack and hiked hard, they'd have no choice but to keep up with me, as I was hauling the heaviest shit!

GOOD day; we made GOOD time, and I had fun, as usual, BS'ing with OD and the fellas. The uphills were WORK: in fact, I had to slow down as I was breaking 150 bpm on the HRM, which I wore all day!

Wound up only having to cut about 15 trees, but that's a lot of trees when you've already raced 50mi!

We did the whole hike in 5:36, including a couple rest stops. My AVERAGE HR was 100! That's pretty good work...another good low-intensity feet-time workout.
