Comments:
Ran both in and out of Devil's Lake State Park for this run which was a real mixed bag of terrain and elevation. I started the run heading into The state park only to find that the only flat way around the lake was to run alongside the train tracks...on the typical rocky terrain you find next to train tracks. I ran on this surface for about a mile and miraculously avoided twisting my ankle and emerged on the other side of the lake. After a pleasantly flat section on the road, I encountered a 3/4-mile long hill that was probably somewhere between a 5-7% grade...it absolutely destroyed me. Then there was an equal downhill on the other side and it was a series of long rolling hills after that. I had planned to do about 11 miles but was so tired after 4 that I decided to cut the run short. It's been really nice running in this beautiful area of Wisconsin, but I will not miss these hills. They make the "hills" I come across at home seem like nothing.
