NYC - East River parkway

September 27, 2013 (Morning)

Exercise Type: Run

Comments:
Great day, today! Up early (so typical to get inadequate sleep: going early in the AM, staying out late at night). Walked one block from Ryan's to the STARBZ for breakfast - this would be the pattern for the next three days: Venti americano plus TWO "Sausy-Bs" (one for breakfast, one for lunch).

Took the subway with Ryan and Brad back to Hunter College. Long day but good one, a great mixture of review and new techniques. Sat next to a super-cute "girl" (33? 34?), who's actually only a PT student at Hunter: Tiffany. She's a former theatre/dance performer who's going back to school for PT. Super-hot: small, but super-fit and muscular, but still very attractive (if BGD didn't think she was hot, I'd punch him). So I had something nice to look at while we spent the afternoon in workout tights and little else. B-)

For this lunch period, we had an hour (all others were only 30min! And no breaks all day!), so I went for a reasonable run. Hunter is right on the east side of Manhatten, so I headed south and hit the East River, where there was a decent path.

The weather was great: mid-70s and sunny. Lots of people on this thin (at times only 4' wide) "park" along the river, abutting a busy road. Peeked over the edge to see if there were any swimmers.

"You're swimming in the East River? The most heavily trafficked overly contaminated waterway on the eastern seaboard??"
"Technically the Norfolk has more gross tonnage!"

"I saw a couple of other guys out there...floating, they weren't moving much. But they were out there.

Stride felt "OK" - got a lot more out of my L pelvis after what we did this AM, but still felt tight in my L hamstring. Wore my old-old school Nike Zoom XC's; the only time I run in them these days is when I'm traveling far/light and don't want to bring extra run shoes. They felt fine, if not a bit fun to run in!

Enjoyed my Sausy-B for lunch and pushed through a good afternoon. That evening, was privileged to attend dinner with Ryan and his parents, including his mom Vicki, who taught my first IPA class in LA back in '10. Hadn't seen her since then, so that was great. She's teaching a different course (PNF) on Long Island.

Ongoing good convos with Gregg; he's such a great man, and so good to talk with. Told him about my Three Sisters run and my theory about fat-burning and HR discipline. He thought it was pretty interesting.

Also at dinner were Brad, Dean Hazama (Gregg/Vicki's #2 in the Institute, who was also teaching the course) and his GF, another woman from our course, then another woman - Tara - who was teaching the PNF class with Vicki. She seemed pretty cute (and around my age) and, as the only one at the table I didn't know, I made a "mature masculine" effort of introducing myself and interacting with her. Not "Tiffany hot", but cute and fun. Talked with her for a while before food came out, and later I could swear she was "givin me the big eyes". HA! Oh golly...

Dinner took forever, so we weren't out of there 'til 1030, so no further interactions with Tara, or anyone else. We headed back to Ryan's.

GOOD DAY.
