Mudberlin

October 19, 2013 (Afternoon)

Exercise Type: Run

Weather: ~50 degrees, Chilly and Rainy

Comments:
Oberlin, last meet of the season. Didn't go quite as well as I'd hoped, but given everything, I'm not going to complain too much.
Splits: 5:53, 12:18, 18:24, 24:45, 30:32.
I wasn't exactly thrilled about the conditions of the race going into today, so it wasn't until the end of the warmup that I physically remembered that running in chilly weather isn't that bad after a bit. Once the race got started though, I realized pretty quick that the weather wouldn't the problem, it was the mud. Seeing Mike Steere's back after the first 100m was proof of that. But moving through the race, the drums definitely helped to pump me up, and get into what seemed like a good position at mile 1. Unfortunately, I fell into the same trap I fell into at All-Ohio. I held position in the race, but the pace slowed down a ton into the second mile. Considering the way my mile splits worked out, I'd say that the slop that was the back trails were mostly to blame. After that second mile though, I realized that going sub 30 probably wasn't going to happen, and started focusing on just passing everybody I could. Which I did. I kept moving up in the race, and I'm pretty sure that the only person that passed me back was Baby Nate during the kick. So short form, ok race, lousy time.

I'm going to take my time off starting now, and come back in a couple of weeks. Despite having rough races, it was really nice to get a full season in, and hopefully I'll have even better seasons in the future!
