prompted by tim and i talking about how good frozen was, i have come up with my top 5 list of movies from 2013! i spent literally every bit of my run thinking about this. i struggled after my first choice. so many factors when you really think about it. when it boiled down to it, i definitely let personal feelings trump how good the movie may be for other people. this is my top 5. not yours haha.
#1- About Time. The most underrated movie of the year. its british. a movie about time travel that really has nothing to do with time travel. funny and clever and the characters are well cast. every character was enjoyable. the relationships in this movie are beautiful. all of them. i cried. like not tears in my eyes, straight up cried. the music was well placed and really made one of the scenes. the movie on a whole is heart warming. loved it.
#2- Frozen. I have a soft spot for kids movies, if you never knew. this one is really fresh in my mind, and tim and i talked it to death but it really was good. it wasn't a great year for kids movies, just good, except for this one. so much adorableness. and the songs? oh yeah. disney's animation studio has recently outperformed pixar.
#3- The World's End. Its only going to get better the more times you see it, like the other two. I already watched it a second time. witty and maybe specific humor, which doesnt attract everyone, but definitely attracts me. i wouldnt want to be gary king, but simon pegg makes him so cool when he shouldnt be.
#4- Man of Steel. My love for superheroes is second only to kids movies. Its actually also a very child-like love. its a shame DC was beat by marvel to do the super hero thing great, because DC has way better characters. superman is like THE man, you know. (though the flash is my favorite!) i love the ending to the movie, and the darker tone of the movie. michael shannon as zod is one of the best casting jobs of the year. and henry cavill is british too. i'm all over the british in this top 5 haha.
#5- Iron Man 3. Dark toned super hero movie. thats how things are being done these days i guess. i'm okay with that. had the typical one liners and more humor though. i love ben kingsley's mandarin, and the job that was done with marketing on his character. the ending though didnt do it for me. too much pepper, and all those beautiful suits? less tony stark fighting and more iron man please. but that wont happen because of robert downey jr needing his face time. thats what we get for making him such a huge star.
BONUS: My favorite actor this year, which i already ranted about on running-log before is benedict cumberbatch. i dont know much about star trek beyond the two newer movies but his portrayal of khan is a thing of beauty. him, and simon pegg's humor in that movie almost put that movie in my top 5. he acts serious and intimidating better than anyone of his stature, because he isnt exactly physically imposing. but he is definitely intimidating. he had a good year on the whole too, appearing in lots of good movies.
